New Orleans cupcakes

As far as I can tell, there are two cupcake places in New Orleans. The first one is called Kupcake Factory and is right in the middle of the French quarter, across the street from Nola, and clearly for the tourists. One bite in, I was pretty suspicious that these were made from a mix. However, the frosting was really good and creamy.

Above on the left is the Chocolate/mint and on the right is my usual, Vanilla/Vanilla.

Here's a marble cupcake--marble cupcake and chocolate&vanilla swirled frosting.

The other place was kind of a hike and I skipped part of the conference to get there, but it was worth it. Be Sweet Cupcakes.

From the top left, Vanilla/Vanilla, Red Velvet, Chocolate/Vanilla and Vanilla/Chocolate. I took one bite and said, "That's correct." The best one was the Vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. So good!! Taking the street car in the super hot weather was not so good.

The second place looks good. The first one looks like they are trying to be Crumbs.

Actually The Kupcake Factory makes everything from scratch. Nothing is pre made and all their cakes/cupcakes are buttermilk based. I am a cupcake connoisseur & have never seen a cupcakery achieve such a fluffy cloud like texture from scratch. Much better than Bees Sweets, but to each his or her own.
