Playing outside

I love when I hear city kids say things like "are we taking the A train or the C train?" Or "what stop are we getting off?" Or "is this an express train?"
This Jersey kid says, "are we going to the diner for dinner?"

Winter break

I have been to San Diego a few times to visit my friend Lise, but for some reason, I have usually gone in the summer. This year, I decided to visit in the winter. It was the best decision I've made in a long time because it was warm there while it was freezing here. Lise has a nice little comfy house, and she took a few days off to hang out with me.  And...
I finally got to meet her dog, Brutus.

The first day, we went to a spa. I've never done anything like this before. We went in different pools, took a mud bath, and something called the "grotto" where they put a body masque on you and then you sit underground in a warm room, then wash it off and then sit in a cold room to close your pores. We ended the day by laying on rafts in a lounge pool, drinking cool drinks until the sun went down.

The second day, we went shopping and went to this breakfast place we've gone the past few times I've been there. Originally recommended by esther, it's now become a mainstay. Hash House a go-go. They have HUGE portions so we ate at breakfast and weren't hungry again until dinner.

We went to this little tourist trap of a place for brunch one day, but it was fun to sit by the water and just have a light lunch with this view.

And then we had salted caramel cupcakes from a local place.

And because a visit to San Diego is not complete without a visit to Sprinkles, we went there, too!  There was a huge line and we found out that Valentine's Day is their #1 day of the year and no one that works there is allowed to have that day off.

My last day was a trip to Ocean Beach, a little hippyish community.

And lunch at a local burger joint, Hodad's.

That was it!! California dreaming....
